Austrian Bishop Excommunicates pro-abort Businessman. Are Canadian Bishops Listening?
Kudos to Bishop Andreas Laun, of the Archdiocese of Salzbrurg Austria, who announced that an entrepreneur who allowed an abortion clinic to operate in a mall he owned has been excommunicated. We might actually start seeing some progress if more Bishops started enforcing the excommunication that automatically occurs when someone aids and abets in the killing of unborn children.
It makes me sick when the likes of Piere Trudeau, Paul Martin, Jean Chretien, John Kerry and others go around passing themselves off as devout pious Catholics, while doing everything in their power to go against church teaching and doctrine on life and family issues. If our Bishops would only stand up as Bishop Laun has, we can dispel the myth that there is such a thing as a "pro-choice" Catholic.
The problem with allowing them to receive the Eucharist is twofold. Firstly it is a disgrace to the sacrament itself, and secondly, it creates the impression among the laity that one can be Catholic while flouting the teachings of the Church.
The purpose of excommunication is not revenge. It is biblically based (1 Cor 5). and its purpose is to send the person outside the church in the hope that they might wake up and smell the coffee, repent of their behaviour, and eventually be restored to communion. If we truly believe in the Real Presence, we can ask nothing less.

Cheers for this bishop in taking church discipline seriously.
I hope more clergy, in all denominations, will follow his example!
I'm thrilled the bishop took action.
Did you ever notice none of the "big guns" on the abortion front ever get punished? So far, only NDP MP's have gotten in trouble.
I wonder about that...I wonder if some of the priests are politically biased towards the Liberals.
I agree with the Bishop. More denominations should practice this. There are too many people claiming to be Christian who support non-Christian teachings.
